Not only is Psalm 119 the longest Psalm, but its particular focus is on the way the Word of God is to operate in the life of those who seek, serve, and submit to God. This is what makes it an important Psalm to consider and meditate on.
My hope and prayer are that as we consider what the Psalmist wrote, we will see through the Psalm like a lens. And as we peer through the images and illustrations offered to us, we will understand more deeply what God is calling us to.
One of the more difficult aspects of writing a book is containing your excitement. Not that you should have to contain it. The long hours and the overall effort it took to put your thoughts to paper should be proclaimed from the rooftops. We completely understand. How can we do that? We can do it by remember one thing. The sense of urgency you feel does not have to push you to publish before the book is ready. Too often authors are so excited about getting their books “out there” they grow impatient with the process. This is especially true for self-published authors.
As an author myself, I have learned that a book published too soon may be worse than a book never published. Every book has a story to tell–whether fiction or non-fiction. Every author desires to be read and understood. So, what is the cost of missing that mark? If the book is not properly prepared, it may hinder any future efforts.

One of the lessons we would like to pass on to all authors is this: We are excited that you wrote your book. As a matter of fact, we want your book to be as successful as it possibly can be. The one thing you should always remember is that you do not have to tell everybody what you have done, until it is ready! As a good rule of thumb you should wait at least three months from the time you finish writing to the time you intend to publish. And this is just a minimum. It could and, in some cases, should probably be a little longer.
What does that mean? It means that if I finish my book tomorrow, I should not think about publishing it until three months from today. And, that is if I plan on editing and formatting the book myself (something we do not recommend and will talk about in future posts).
If an author were to go the traditional publishing route, through an established publishing house, the average time for a book from proposal to distribution is anywhere between 12-24 months. There is a reason for this. There is a lot that is going on and has to take place before a book is ready to go out into the world. As a self-publishing author take pride in your work, but also take care of your work. Your book is not only an extension of yourself, it is should be treated as a gift to those who read it.
