New Believer's Glossary

Help me Fill in the Blank!

I am starting a new series here on the site!

I’ve been out of youth ministry for about 4 years. However, during my time serving young believers, I was often asked to define “church words.” Since I grew up in the church I did not give many of these words much thought. I was/am accustomed to hearing them. Then I realized that not everyone understood how important these theological words were.

The words that we hear when we go to church are designed to create pictures in our mind. To help us understand what it means to hold onto a certain set of beliefs. Words like “holy,” “righteousness,” “saved,” to name a few.

I am not talking about the weird lingo we use in church, but the theological words that convey the meaning and depth of the Christian faith.

I remember something my father told me many years ago. He said, “Words have meaning. Therefore, know the meaning of words.”

This has been an important idea for me throughout my life. One that has influenced and shaped how I think about words and how those words impact my faith.

So, I could use your help. What are some theological church words that you are confused about, have heard but don’t fully understand, or even like and wish more people did as well? I will do my best to define and illustrate them as we all learn the meaning of these important words.

You can leave your suggestions in the comments below.

Please know that some suggestions may not be used since I am looking for theological words. I reserve the right to decide which ones make the cut for this project.
